Winemaker Notes
A wine cherished by Petrolo, wanted by Lucia Bazzocchi Sanjust in 1988 and made at the time with the help of former wine consultant Giulio Gambelli. Torrione marks the beginning of the winery’s new approach to winemaking aiming to produce wines of the highest quality.
Torrione is the “chateau” of Petrolo, a blend of the grapes of all the vineyards: not only Sangiovese from Bòggina but also from other historical vineyards, including Merlot from Galatrona and Cabernet Sauvignon from Campo Lusso. A perfect example of a balanced, clear and deep red. A wine that tells, better than any other, the true identity of our territory.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The organic Petrolo 2023 Torrione is a blend of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in oak for 15 to 18 months. The fruit comes from vineyards at 300 meters in elevation on a mix of galestro schist and alberese limestone, soils that contribute both structure and freshness. Dark and nicely concentrated, the wine shows aromas of plum, black cherry and sweet earth, followed by hints of nutmeg and cedar. Phenolically balanced, it offers enough richness and texture to create a smooth, elegant mouthfeel.

A creamy and crunchy red despite being rather full-bodied, with cherries, berries, bark and hints of milk chocolate and hazelnuts on the nose. Long, refreshing and silky finish. A blend of mostly sangiovese with some merlot and a touch of trebbiano. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.

Vinous
The 2023 Torrione is terrific. A rush of plum, blackberry, rose petal, cloves and blood orange makes a strong opening statement. This bold, juicy Sangiovese-based red hits all the right notes. Dollops of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon round out the blend.
Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.
A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
