Sitting outside its Estate Collection, the Artemis represents Stag’s Leap’s effort to capture the regional essence of Napa Valley. Sourced from a total of six sites throughout the valley, more than half of the 2016 fruit was sourced from Atlas Peak and St Helena. Stephen Brook - Intense, lean oaky nose, with pure blackcurrant fruit. Restrained attack, very polished, sleek and lifted, understated but stylish with quite good acidity and ample persistence. Fully ripe but no excesses. Long. James Doidge - Dark colour, intense aromas of Morello cherry and cassis, rich, ripe and concentrated on the palate, a touch savoury on the finish with balanced, sandy-textured tannin. Ronan Sayburn MS - Sweet nose, ripe and creamy, heavy oak, soft palate, vanilla and cream finish. Drinking Window 2020 - 2035

Jeb Dunnuck
The only red presented, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis checks in as 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, and smaller amounts of Petit Verdot and Malbec, all aged in 30% new French and 4% new American oak. Ripe blackberries, black cherries, spice, and a beautiful floral quality all emerge from this medium to full-bodied effort. With some creamy oak, sweet tannins, and good purity, it’s a pleasure-bent red to drink over the coming 10-15 years

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis is a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. Deep purple-black in color, it opens with notions of crushed black cherries, warm blackberries and mulberries with hints of unsmoked cigars, fragrant soil and wild sage plus a waft of allspice. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the palate with expressive black berry and earthy layers with a frame of grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with an herbal lift.

James Suckling
A very attractive, violet-like floral character with fresh, leafy notes and upbeat blackcurrants in this opulent cab. Medium to full body, fine tannins, and a gorgeously long finish

Wine & Spirits
This is a pan–Napa Valley blend with only one percent coming from SLWC’s estate vineyards, but Marcus Notaro managed to fashion the wine so the tannins parallel the dark-chocolate-ganache character of fine Stags Leap District cabernet. Layer that over fresh raspberry, blackberry and sweet plum flavors, tighten it up with some smoky oak tannins, and you’ll have a sense of what’s in store when you open this bottle, whether now or in three years.

COMMENTARY: If one brand identifies the Napa Valley like few others, it is Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. This internationally known entity continues to hold its marketplace value. The 2016 Artemis is sold and continues the legacy of the brand. TASTING NOTES: Everything is in place with wine. Its aromas and flavors of ripe red fruit, leather, and a shading of oak should pair it well with a juicy ribeye. (Tasted: August 14, 2018, San Francisco, CA)

Considered one of the "first growths" of Napa Valley, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars produces renowned Cabernet Sauvignon from its historic Stags Leap District estate vineyards. Learn about Stags Leap history and estate-grown wines.
History of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars
Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars was founded in 1970 with the purchase of a 40 acre property in the now famed Stag’s Leap District AVA in Napa Valley. The winery brought international recognition to California winemaking and the Napa Valley region when their 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon won the 1976 Paris Tasting, also known as the "Judgement of Paris."
Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Estate-Grown Cabernet Sauvignon
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars' three estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons - CASK 23, S.L.V. and Fay - are among the most highly regarded and collected Cabernet Sauvignons worldwide. The Cabernet wines are fashioned to express richness balanced by elegant restraint, an approach often described as "an iron fist in a velvet glove."
One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.
Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
