Winemaker Notes

Intense cherry red color. Remarkable aromatic complexity with memories of black fruit and balsamic and toasted touches. Warm and gentle in the mouth, with soft but persistent tannins in perfect balance with the alcohol.

70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

RP 91
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2010 Berola is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in a combination of American and French oak for ten months. It then spends a year in bottle prior to being released. A sleeper of the vintage, it reveals a deep ruby/purple color along with aromas of blackberries, black cherries, licorice and lavender. Full-bodied, rich, nicely textured and impressively pure, it can be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years.

Borsao, Spain
Borsao Bodega Borsao Through the Seasons Winery Image
Founded in 1958 in the town of Borja, called Borsao in the 4th century B.C., this winery represents what can be done with Garnacha, a grape that is not well appreciated by the Spanish press. Through meticulous selection, work in the fields and at reception time in the winery, modern winemaking produces this highly fruity wine. One of the best examples of the region known as "The Garnacha land of Spain", the lower part of the Ebro River.

Spanish red wine is known for being bold, heady, rustic and age-worthy, Spain is truly a one-of-a-kind wine-producing nation. A great majority of the country is hot, arid and drought-ridden, and since irrigation has only been recently introduced and (controversially) accepted, viticulture has sustained—and flourished—only through a great understanding of Spain’s particular conditions. Large spacing between vines allows each enough resources to survive and as a result, the country has the most acreage under vine compared to any other country, but is usually third in production.

Of the Spanish red wines, the most planted and respected grape variety is Tempranillo, the star of Spain’s Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions. Priorat specializes in bold red blends, Jumilla has gained global recognition for its single varietal Monastrell and Utiel-Requena has garnered recent attention for its reds made of Bobal.
