Winemaker Notes

Intense cherry red color. Remarkable aromatic complexity with notes of black fruit, light balsamic and toasted touches that remind of BBQ and a vanilla chocolate cake. Cherry cola, lavender, bright red and black preserves in the mouth, full bodied with rich complexity.

Goes well with beef, pork, pasta, cheese, and rice based dishes like paella.

Blend: 70% Garnacha, 20% Syrah, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon

WS 91
Wine Spectator
This red is thick yet fresh, fruit-centered but with savory elements for balance. Blackberry, currant, licorice, cocoa and loamy earth flavors mingle over firm, well-integrated tannins, focused by balsamic acidity. In the modern style. Grenache, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2030.
WE 90
Wine Enthusiast
Ripe blackberry and black cherry aromas come with Christmas spice, fennel seed and nutmeg accents. This Garnacha-based red blend is big and sappy, as should be expected from Campo de Borja. Mildly woody black fruit flavors are roasted and warm, while this delivers on a spicy finish.
JS 90
James Suckling
Ripe dark cherries and berries with wild herbs and background oak spice. This has a very rich and vibrant feel with a succulent, juicy and impressively ripe core of dark and redder-fruit flavors.

Borsao, Spain
Borsao Bodega Borsao Through the Seasons Winery Image
Founded in 1958 in the town of Borja, called Borsao in the 4th century B.C., this winery represents what can be done with Garnacha, a grape that is not well appreciated by the Spanish press. Through meticulous selection, work in the fields and at reception time in the winery, modern winemaking produces this highly fruity wine. One of the best examples of the region known as "The Garnacha land of Spain", the lower part of the Ebro River.

Spanish red wine is known for being bold, heady, rustic and age-worthy, Spain is truly a one-of-a-kind wine-producing nation. A great majority of the country is hot, arid and drought-ridden, and since irrigation has only been recently introduced and (controversially) accepted, viticulture has sustained—and flourished—only through a great understanding of Spain’s particular conditions. Large spacing between vines allows each enough resources to survive and as a result, the country has the most acreage under vine compared to any other country, but is usually third in production.

Of the Spanish red wines, the most planted and respected grape variety is Tempranillo, the star of Spain’s Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions. Priorat specializes in bold red blends, Jumilla has gained global recognition for its single varietal Monastrell and Utiel-Requena has garnered recent attention for its reds made of Bobal.
