Colombard is a large-berried white grape originating in Southwest France. A cross between Chenin Blanc and Gouais Blanc, it is grown in Cognac and Armagnac for distillation into Brandy. As a dry white wine, Colombard shows high acidity and pleasant green apple, citrus, white peach, almond and lemongrass characteristics. Having a high pulp-to-skin ratio, Colombard can produce a fairly neutral wine which makes it suitable for Cognac and Armagnac production.
