Winemaker Notes

This Fiano’s twinkling pale honey color is deceiving. The wine is rich while still lively, fruited and savory. Aromas of freshly sliced apples with a squeeze of lemon engage the nose. The first sip is at once electric and elegant with notes of apricots and marmalade, lavender and a hint of clove. The minerality lingers and makes this wine the perfect complement to your holiday raw bar. Drink now and for the next 5 years.

COMMENTARY: I stopped in my tracks when I tasted the 2016 Villa Creek Fiano. TASTING NOTES: This wine is muscular and persistent. Pair its aromas and flavors of tart peach and earthy notes with a chicken pot pie. (Tasted: April 23, 2019, San Francisco, CA)

Fiano is an aromatic, white variety fully suited to the Apennine Mountains of Campania and has been documented in the region since the 13th century. It is at its best in the hills of Avellino where volcanic soils give it a charismatic aromatic lift and support a range of styles from taut and steely to nutty and smooth. Somm Secret—If you like Chardonnay, Viognier or Pinot Blanc, Fiano would be a great new wine to try!
