Winemaker Notes

The palate displays an integrated balance of dark cherry andraspberry, accented by spicy notes on its seamless finish.

Pairs well with classic grilled or roasted salmon, filet mignon and softcheeses.

Wilfred Wong of Wine.com
What are reserve wines? Are they the best grapes from a given growing season? Or are they what the wine team decides are the best wines they can make? The 2012 Stoller Family Estate Reserve Pinot Noir takes the reserve program seriously. While winemakers sometimes simply call the biggest wines of the vintage their reserve, this wine, coming from the winery's best vineyard blocks, exemplifies a "reserve" in the truest sense. The team lets the grapes speak for themselves with as little intervention as possible. The wine's aroma tantalizes the senses and exhibits some of the variety's finest traits: wild red fruits, dried herbs and superb intensity. Pair this one with a rosemary-infused leg of lamb and you could discover that a true reserve wine can indeed be special. Drinking nicely now. (Tasted: June 28, 2016, San Francisco, CA)

Stoller Family Estate, Oregon
Image of winery
Located in the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley in the Dundee Hills AVA, Stoller uniquely offers world class wines and genuine hospitality in a stunning setting. Owners Bill and Cathy Stoller purchased the nearly 400 acre property, which was originally his family’s turkey farm, in 1993 and crafted the winery’s inaugural Pinot Noir in 2001. Their vision of innovation blending vineyard stewardship with environmental sustainability was recognized in 2006 when Stoller became the first LEED® certified winemaking facility in the United States attaining the rare Gold level certification. Today, the winery features panoramic views including Mt. Hood, ample outdoor space for relaxation and guest houses.

Home of some of the planet’s most amazingly elegant and expressive Pinot noir, the Willamette Valley is a pastoral, mixed landscape of green, bucolic rolling hills, dramatic forestlands and small, independent, friendly wine growers. As a leader in environmental stewardship, the valley has some of the nation’s most protective land use policies, with two-thirds of its vineyards farmed sustainably and over half, organically. While the valley claims a cool, continental climate, and is heavily influenced by the cold, moist winds of the Pacific Ocean, its warm and dry summers allow for the steady, even ripening of Pinot noir.

The potential of Willamette Valley Pinot noir continues to attract the investment of serious growers and winemakers both locally and from abroad, as naturally the finished wines bring accolades from professionals and enthusiasts. With a range of styles from delicate dried cherry, raspberry and hibiscus to stronger notes of truffle, mocha, plum and spice, a fine Willamette Valley Pinot noir is a perfect expression of both character and grace.
