Winemaker Notes

Vibrant aromas of lemon curd leap from the glass, followed by wet stone, white flowers, and orange oil. On the palate, tropical flavors of pineapple and yuzu evolve into crisp apple and pear, finishing on floral notes of jasmine and pear blossom. The mid-palate is broad, filling the mouth while staying focused with bright acidity.

A lean Dundee Hills Chardonnay is done with a combination of oak, steel and concrete fermentation. Aromatics of lemon zest, along with wet stone, apple blossom and cut peach, lead to a fresh and lively palate. Flavors of lemon creme, wet stone and Kaffir lime, this is a lean and zesty Chardonnay, perhaps a marker of the cooler, longer growing season.

Apricot pie, lemon curd and spiced apples on the nose. It’s medium-to full-bodied with crisp acidity and a smooth, clean finish.

The 2022 Chardonnay Dundee Hills was fermented and matured for 10 months in concrete and an additional eight months in stainless steel. It has delicate scents of red apples, yellow peaches, freshly baked bread and floral perfume. The light-bodied palate balances concentrated, gently grippy flavors with mouthwatering acidity, and it has a long, savory finish.

The tropics meet the orchard here, with ripe aromas of lime, lemon and peach, along with a minty mineral note similar to the white powder found on a stick of Wrigley's Spearmint gum. While lemon gelato and pink grapefruit flavors fill the mouth, a bit more acidity would be nice.

One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.

Home of the first Pinot noir vineyard of the Willamette Valley, planted by David Lett of Eyrie Vineyard in 1966, today the Dundee Hills AVA remains the most densely planted AVA in the valley (and state). To its north sits the Chehalem Valley and to its south, runs the Willamette River. Within the region’s 12,500 acres, about 1,700 are planted to vine on predominantly basalt-based, volcanic, Jory soil.
