Winemaker Notes

The most elegant expression of Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Well suited to delicate dishes with cream sauces, steamed fish, and delicate fish such as sole, whiting, or brook trout. Perfect with fish mousse or soufflé, and white meats including chicken breast, turkey breast, or milk-fed veal.

The excellent 2014 Vernaccia di San Gimignano Fiore is made from the precious "mosto fiore" or the the first juice to emerge from the press before the skins, seeds and stems are put under excessive pressure. This pure must results in a more floral and delicate interpretation with clean lines, crisp acidity and delicate aromas of white flower and tropical fruit, as well as mint and saffron. This is an exceptional wine from the Tuscan City of Towers.

Vernaccia's intricate history is rooted in San Gimignano. The idyllic countryside upon which this vine grows was actually named Italy’s first DOC in 1966. Somm Secret—The 13th century marks its first written record and the grape was celebrated widely in literature, namely poems by Dante and Franseco Redi.

Producing some of Tuscany’s best white wines based on its own variety called Vernaccia, San Gimignano is a small appellation to the west of Chianti centered around the romantic village of the same name. Vernaccia produces a fruity and floral white with plenty of verve on the palate and often a fresh note of raw almond.
