Winemaker Notes

Our Cinsault is smooth as silk, thanks to low tannin levels. This is not a big, in-your-face-red. Its style reflects a more flirty, pretty, and ever-so-slightly feminine personality. It delivers nice aromatics consistent with summer strawberries. In the mouth it offers Bing cherry and raspberry.

Pair with: Mild cheeses, pasta, grilled pork loin. Try it with ham sandwiches in your picnic basket.

    Polished, elegant and supple, this offers upfront aromas of plum, strawberry and red cherry. The flavors are pure and fruity, but nicely complex, bringing in light nuances of vanilla, clove and cinnamon to top the cherry and berry freshness. Made from one of the state's oldest Cinsault plantings, this is supremely smooth and sophisticated.

A charmer in the Southern Rhône Valley, Cinsault thrives in any hot and windy climate, and finds success in many other countries. It is a parent grape alongside Pinot Noir, of South Africa’s acclaimed red grape, Pinotage. Somm Secret—Given its relatively long history in California, Cinsualt is often “hidden” in the Zinfandel blends of Sonoma and Contra Costa Counties. Historically planted alongside Zinfandel (with Petite Sirah and Mourvedre) in the same vineyard, Cinsault is now an essential part of many “field blends.”

Reaching up California's coastline and into its valleys north of San Francisco, the North Coast AVA includes six counties: Marin, Solano, Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake. While Napa and Sonoma enjoy most of the glory, the rest produce no shortage of quality wines in an intriguing and diverse range of styles.

Climbing up the state's rugged coastline, the chilly Marin County, just above the City and most of Sonoma County, as well as Mendocino County on the far north end of the North Coast successfully grow cool-climate varieties like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and in some spots, Riesling. Inland Lake County, on the other hand, is considerably warmer, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc produce some impressive wines with affordable price tags.
