Winemaker Notes

The St. Laurent is from Carneros. This wine has a depth that transcends the region of Carneros and even Matt’s signature that he puts on his wines. The salinity coupled with the richness of the varietal is pronounced in a way that the winemaker has never experienced with St. Laurent. The Intrigues of the East: grownin Carneros by Dale Ricci, the Godfather of American St. Laurent. A dark and savory enigma. Whole cluster fermented, 10 months in barrel. This is the only known planting of the grapein California.

Known for elegant wines that combine power and finesse, Carneros is set in the rolling hills that straddle the southernmost parts of both Sonoma and Napa counties. The cooling winds from the abutting San Pablo Bay, combined with lots of midday California sunshine, create an ideal environment for producing wines with a perfect balance of crisp acidity and well-ripened fruit.

This cooler pocket of California lends itself to growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. Carneros is an important source of sparkling wines made in the style of Champagne as well.
