Winemaker Notes
The 2023 Schiava graces the eyes with its vibrant ruby hue, hinting at delicate cherry undertones. Its taste is harmonious and sophisticated, underscored by a gentle acidity and tannin that adds complexity. It culminates in an unexpected yet delightful bitter almond aftertaste. All in all, it’s a satisfyingly fruity red wine with a commendable finish.

Aromas of drying herbs and freshly cut grass lead the way, with tart red fruits adding brightness. The wine is lean and herbal, with an edge of slightly dried herbs as a hint of cranberry and sour cherry lingers. All culminating in a brisk finish that invites another sip.

This juicy, light-bodied red waltzes across the palate, displaying flavors of wild cherry, mulberry and plum skin. Bright and integrated, with pretty aromatics of mountain herbs, lavender, anise and sweet smoke accenting the core of fruit and lingering on the finish. Drink now through 2028. 2,500 cases imported.

Creating transparent, cranberry colored reds, perfumed with a hint of mint or pepper, the Schiava grape makes its home in the Alto Adige region of NE Italy. The German speakers here call it Vernatsch and it goes by the name of Trollinger in the German region of Württemberg. Schiava enjoys great popularity in Switzerland, Austria and southern Germany. Somm Secret—Schiava’s bright raspberry and pomegranate qualities make it a perfectly delightful summer red! Serve it slightly chilled.
