Following an ambition to make a delightful drinking wine from an easier-to-grow vine than Riesling, he decided to cross it with the table grape, Madeleine Royale. Müller-Thurgau grows with success in Germany, Austria (it is second most planted after Riesling), Alto Adige of Italy, Hungary, England, Australia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, New Zealand, the United States and Japan.
