One of the oldest and distinctively scented red grape varieties of Savoie, Mondeuse is showing great potential as global demand for this rare wine grows. Benefitting from careful oak ageing, the best Mondeuse comes from the Bugey region or is sold as a varietal Vin de Savoie, often from a particular cru. Mondeuse grows with success in Switzerland as well, mainly in Vaud; tiny amounts appear in Sicily and California.

Mondeuse is a dry, red wine with a medium body and bright acidity. The wines are often full of dark fruit, such as Damson plum and wild blackberry, accented by tart cherry. Vibrant aromas of pine, juniper, mint and black pepper are characteristic of Mondeuse.
