Winemaker Notes
With 175 years of unbroken independence, Yalumba continues to make wine at its founder's home estate under the direction of the same family today. Samuel's Collection honors Yalumba's founder Samuel Smith, his spirit of independence and conviction to invest in the land and make great wine.
A moreish Barossa Shiraz that is approachable, full-bodied and fleshy. Deep and brooding with aromas of dark fruits, red spices, anise and ripe cherries, the palate flows with even texture towards a soft finish.
Enjoy with sweet potato and black bean burgers or a lamb roast with all the trimmings.

James Suckling
It is hard to go past this for a Barossan archetype, melding a contemporary sense of tension and freshness, with full weight and sumptuous aromas of boysenberry, iodine, black olive and violet. Wow! This is quite possibly the best proprietary shiraz in the land, at least if one is seeking sophistication and flavor at a price.

Wine Spectator
Dense and dark, with hints of black walnut liqueur and date-nut bread in the background as blackberry and blueberry flavors are ripe and juicy at the core. Notes of chai tea, cardamom, white pepper and cedar linger on the finish.

Australian Wine Companion
This 2021 Shiraz Barossa is well-made and delivers for the price. It opens with layers of fruit pastille and dark cherry aromas before sliding into more savory baked earth and old leather. A solid punchy palate delivers more tar and roasted meat flavors, with chewy tannins providing a surprisingly long finish.

Decanter
Spicy and dark berry aromas with earthy nuances. Delicious on the palate, very well balanced and nicely composed.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2021 Samuel's Collection Shiraz is spicy, concentrated and lovely. Tannins shape the sweet purple fruit in the mouth, and the wine is gently dusted by anise, fennel, raspberry pip and black cherry. It's a joy. Lovely wine!
Marked by an unmistakable deep purple hue and savory aromatics, Syrah makes an intense, powerful and often age-worthy red. Native to the Northern Rhône, Syrah achieves its maximum potential in the steep village of Hermitage and plays an important component in the Red Rhône Blends of the south, adding color and structure to Grenache and Mourvèdre. Syrah is the most widely planted grape of Australia and is important in California and Washington. Sommelier Secret—Such a synergy these three create together, the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre trio often takes on the shorthand term, “GSM.”
The Barossa Zone encompasses the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley. Some of the oldest vines in Australia can be found here.
Barossa Valley of course is the most important and famous wine growing region in all of Australia where 140+ year-old, dry-farmed Shiraz vines still produce inky, purple and dense juice for some of Australia's best wines.
In the cooler, wetter Eden Valley sub-region, the Hill of Grace vineyard is home to famous Shiraz vines from the 1800s but the region produces also some of Australia’s very best and age-worthy Rieslings.
