Winemaker Notes

Straw in color, with an intriguing nose of boxwood, citrus and jalapeño brine. The mouth is soft with dry skin tannins persisting on the finish.

This cloudy, honey-colored, skincontact Semillon from a top notch natty producer, Walsh and Sons, is reminiscent of a pick-your-own orchard in the fall, with aromas of fresh hay, bruised apples, pumpkin spice and damp earth. The palate is radiant, with crackling acidity that tingles the tongue, a bit of skinsy tannins and earthy, wild flavors that lend a sense of place and food friendliness. Drink with truffle and other mushroomy, cheesy pasta dishes.

Sémillon has the power to create wines with considerable structure, depth and length that will improve for several decades. It is the perfect partner to the vivdly aromatic Sauvignon Blanc. Sémillon especially shines in the Bordeaux region of Sauternes, which produces some of the world’s greatest sweet wines. Somm Secret—Sémillon was so common in South Africa in the 1820s, covering 93% of the country’s vineyard area, it was simply referred to as Wyndruif, or “wine grape.”

Home to some of Australia’s most elegant and long-lived red and white wines, Margaret River is situated in the farthest reaches of Western Australia. Relatively warm and dry, the region is cooled by breezes from the Indian Ocean. Margaret River takes some inspiration from Bordeaux, producing top-quality Cabernet Sauvignons and Bordeaux Blends with firm structure, mouthwatering acidity, balanced alcohol and notes of herbs and spice. For white wines, refreshing blends of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon as well as complex, age-worthy Chardonnays are regional specialties.
