Winemaker Notes

This wine is a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne all from a single vineyard in the Los Chacayes IG in the Uco Valley. The nose jumps out of the glass with notes of orange peel, apricot, candied peach, and tangerine all woven together with white flowers, lavender, and a touch of coriander. The palate shows good acidity to match the full bodied character and the wine finishes with notes of honeydew melon and just a hint of flor. Rockstar juice in a bottle!

Composed of equal parts co-fermented Roussanne and Marsanne, the 2021 Geisha de Jade fermented in concrete eggs before maturing in a mix of concrete and 400-liter barrique that underwent partial biological aging. It opens with an exotic, expressive and nuanced bouquet of dried spices, citrus rinds and orchard fruits, followed by a racy, silky palate gently padded with pleasing textural richness. It closes with an assertive, saturated, focused finish that remains alluringly delicate while expanding in dimension with aeration.

The 2021 Geisha de Jade is a blend of 50% Marsanne and Roussanne from Los Chacayes, Uco Valley. Twenty percent was aged under flor. Soft peach, chamomile, hay and a gentle herbal touch introduce a lean, dry and flavorful palate. Smooth in texture, the 2021 concludes with a direct finish.

Full-bodied and flavorful, white Rhône blends originate from France’s Rhône Valley. Today these blends are also becoming popular in other regions. Typically some combination of Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier form the basis of a white Rhône blend with varying degrees of flexibility depending on the exact appellation. Somm Secret—In the Northern Rhône, blends of Marsanne and Roussanne are common but the south retains more variety. Marsanne, Roussanne as well as Bourboulenc, Clairette, Picpoul and Ugni Blanc are typical.

With a winning combination of cool weather, high elevation and well-draining alluvial soils, it is no surprise that Mendoza’s Uco Valley is one of the most exciting up-and-coming wine regions in Argentina. Healthy, easy-to-manage vines produce low yields of high-quality fruit, which in turn create flavorful, full-bodied wines with generous acidity.

This is the source of some of the best Malbec in Mendoza, which can range from value-priced to ultra-premium. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay also perform well here.
