Winemaker Notes

A deep ruby color with bright red hues with a classic, deeply concentrated nose of cassis liqueur, black currants, mulberries, menthol and dark chocolate. The nose is a reflection of the ripeness and generous fruit depth coming from the 2004 vintage. The wine is well balanced with soft supple tannins, sweet fruit and elegant acid structure. The refined palate offers a full-bodied rich wine yet well-harnassed and controlled by fine chalky tannin structure and raspberry conserve like acid. An opulent and varietal Cabernet that was made possible by near perfect vintage conditions, strategic vineyard selection and blending. This wine is best consumed within 6-8 years from bottling.

"Tiny dollops of Malbec and Merlot are included in the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, a Bordeaux-like red offering up superb aromas of black currants, cedar, licorice, and new oak. Opaque ruby/purple-colored and medium-bodied with good acidity, intensity, and purity, it should drink well for 10-12 years." 90 Points

"Deep red. Textbook cabernet nose offers pungent redcurrant, cherry, tobacco and cigarbox aromas complicated by dried rose and green peppercorn. Sharply etched red and dark berry flavors show very good depth as well as bright minerality. Sweetness builds on the long, juicy finish, which leaves traces of vanilla and bitter chocolate behind. While this is built to age there's plenty of flavor interest right now." 91 Points

"Bright and generous, with a savory character to the raspberry, cherry and mint flavors, finishing polished and refined. Drink now through 2015." 89 Points

A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.
