Winemaker Notes

The Alpha and Omega of Unico Zelo. When discovering the ability of Fiano's incredible to be dry grown in the Riverland, a bonafide desert, it set Unico Zelo on the path that they were set to follow. It also certainly helps that the wine produced from it is nothing short of a delight. Elegant whiffs of jasmine and white peach blossoms, racy and crackling acidity with distinct Fiano texture. One of those white wines that can suit almost any situation calling for a good glass - it's destined for the lunch table.

A mélange of rich, wild (but not funky) aromas—from yeasty apple and lemongrass to terra cotta and crushed stones—swirl and twirl out of the glass. There’s a skins-derived pithy, waxy edge to the otherwise creamy mouthfeel, ending on a beeswax and citrus-seed note. Like everything in this progressive producer’s range, it walks to its own distinctive beat and is all the tastier for it.

Fiano is an aromatic, white variety fully suited to the Apennine Mountains of Campania and has been documented in the region since the 13th century. It is at its best in the hills of Avellino where volcanic soils give it a charismatic aromatic lift and support a range of styles from taut and steely to nutty and smooth. Somm Secret—If you like Chardonnay, Viognier or Pinot Blanc, Fiano would be a great new wine to try!

Adelaide refers to the diverse super zone in South Australia containing the Mount Lofty Ranges Zone (Adelaide Hills, Adelaide Plains and Clare Valley), Fleurieu Zone (Currency Creek, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, McLaren Vale, and Southern Fleurieu) and Barossa Zone (Barossa Valley and Eden Valley).

The Adelaide Hills region is distinguished and beautiful, offering a cool respite in the summer for Adelaide city dwellers. With vineyards planted fairly high in elevation at 1,500 to 1,800 feet, it is known for particularly fine, citrus-driven Sauvignon Blanc.

The Adelaide Plains is a hot region northwest of the Adelaide Hills that produces approachable, value-driven wines.
