    Winemaker Notes

Mary’s Vineyard is sustainably farmed and sits on 34 acres in the Calistoga AVA. With its balanced vines, moderately fertile soil and excellent sun exposure, it offers ideal conditions to grow Sauvignon Blanc with a vibrant character. Part of the vineyard is planted to the Musqué clone, which adds complexity to the finished wine. Aromatics of lemon blossom, lime zest, fresh white peach and juicy honeydew melon, textural richness, vibrant acidity, with flavors of crisp green apple and other orchard fruit balanced by a refreshing minerality. Medium body, refreshing, crisp acidity and nice balanced finish. This sustainably farmed estate vineyard sits on 34-acres in the Calistoga region. The combination of clones [47% Clone 1, 53% Clone Musqué] created a wine with striking aromatics of lemon blossom, lime zest, fresh white peach and juicy honeydew melon. Aged 6 months in a combination of stainless steel [70%] and French oak [2% new oak barrels]. One 750 mL wine bottle of Trinchero Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, 14.2% ABV

The Trinchero family has been making wine in the Napa Valley since 1948, and Trinchero Napa Valley serves to honor the legacy of founder, Mario Trinchero. Wines bearing the Trinchero Napa Valley label are luxury-class, predominantly single-vineyard, wines from their Napa Valley estates. Each is painstakingly handcrafted and produced in limited quantities. They source their grapes from 100 acres of estate vineyards in prime Napa Valley appellations, including St. Helena, Mount Veeder, Rutherford and Atlas Peak.

One of Napa Valley’s oldest wine growing subregions but last to gain appellation status, Calistoga occupies the northernmost section of the valley. Beginning at the foot of Mount St. Helena, its vineyards stretch over steep canyons and roll out onto the valley floor. The soils in Calistoga are volcanic, which means they are heavy in minerals, low in organic matter and allow good drainage for vine roots, creating less green growth and more concentration of flavor within the grape berries.

Summer days are very hot but most nights cool down with moist ocean breezes sneaking in over the Mayacamas Mountains or from Knights Valley to its northwest.

Cabernet Sauvignon is the area’s star variety with Zinfandel coming in a strong second, though the latter commands far less price per tonnage so continues to be outshined by Cabernet in vineyard acreage, save for some important exceptions.

Capable of a vast array of styles, Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing variety that equally reflects both terroir and varietal character. Though it can vary depending on where it is grown, a couple of commonalities always exist—namely, zesty acidity and intense aromatics. This variety is of French provenance. Somm Secret—Along with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc is a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. That green bell pepper aroma that all three varieties share is no coincidence—it comes from a high concentration of pyrazines (herbaceous aromatic compounds) inherent to each member of the family.
