Winemaker Notes
This wine offers a bright red color and beautiful purple reflections. On the nose, it is elegant, with fruity aromas of cherry and strawberry. The palate is full and fat with a lot of elegance. This wine will go perfectly with a red meat tartare or game.

There is real purity of fruit in this, with blackberry, black cherry, lavender and chalk. Some iodine, too. It’s medium-bodied with medium fine tannins and a fruity yet reserved finish. Serious. From biodynamically grown grapes.

The 2016 Saumur Champigny Clos de l'Échelier is from a thin layer of white clay over Turonian limestone. This has perfect ripeness and lovely cassis and earthy aromas on the intense and elegant nose. Silky, round and elegant in the mouth, very long and juicy, with fine, ripe and crunchy, spicy tannins and lingering salinity. Great freshness and complexity. Highly elegant and refined, beautifully balanced. Long finish with cherry flavors. "This wine has the balance I am aiming for," says Thierry Germain.
Cabernet Franc, a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, is the subtler and more delicate of the Cabernets. Here Cabernet Franc shines as a single varietal wine or in blends, expressing sumptuous fruit, savory aromas and polished tannins.
Marked by great châteaux built with the same tuffeau limestone that is also responsible for the excavation of so many of the famed Loire caves, Saumur is famous for its Chenin blanc based sparkling wines. Inside the Saumur region, Saumur-Champigny creates some of the Loire’s greatest Cabernet Francs.
