Winemaker Notes

Bolgheri DOC 2016 Tenuta Le Colonne is a deep ruby red withglossy highlights. Aromas: Linear, elegant, with hints of black fruit such as black berries, and cherry. Delicate hints of vanilla accompany the bouquet. Taste: intense and full-bodied, but also refreshing and refined. The tannins are plush and austere. Long persistent finish. Superb with meat roasts, Chianina beef steak, roasted lamb and game
Blend: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc

Dark plums, dried herbs, ink, iodine, elderberries and the faintest touch of resin. Full body, ripe yet structured tannins and a chewy finish. Drink in 2020.

The 2016 Bolgheri is a mid-weight red wine with a pretty display of black cherry, plum and black currant aromas. There's plenty of ripe fruit to behold in this balanced but informal red blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine hits that sweet spot between quality and low pricing that makes it perfect for informal dinners at home or with a good movie on the screen.

A bright, elegant red, with nervous tannins buoying black currant, cherry, wild herb and earth flavors. Tips toward the tannins in the balance now, yet remains fresh and long. Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2024.

One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.

An outstanding wine region made famous by Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, who planted Cabernet Sauvignon vines for his own consumption in 1940s on his San Guido estate, and called the resulting wine, Sassicaia. Today the region’s Tuscan reds are based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which can be made as single varietal wines or blends. The local Sangiovese can make up no more than 50% of the blends. Today Sassicaia has its own DOC designation within the Bogheri DOC appellation.
