Winemaker Notes

Ruby hue with a bright edge. The aromas in this vintage jump from the glass with elegance and finesse. Big, bright raspberry and sour cherry interlace with gently lifted aromas of violets and savory notes of gingerbread, sage, and fire toasted oak. Subtle notes of smoke complete the aromatics. Bright notes of sour cherry and cranberry are framed with hints of toasted bread and smoke. Ginger and earthy notes of sage follow up on the mid-palate. Nicely structured with firm acidity, red raspberry and notes of cocoa and toasty oak linger on the finish.

Simi's philosophy is to produce a Pinot Noir that is fruit forward andwell-balanced, pairing beautifully with simple, rustic food. This wine is marvelous when paired with dishes like roasted chicken with cranberry sage chutney, grilled pork loin with cherries and almonds, or a blackened cod with goat cheese polenta.

As early as the 1970s Carneros became known as a source of terrific Pinot Noir, and was one of the first California regions to gain such a reputation. The combination of sunny days, cooling fog and thin clay soils are tailor-made for the variety. Another factor in Pinot Noir’s prominent place here is vintners’ willingness to experiment widely. The history of the grape in Carneros is marked by continuous research into clonal variations, viticultural techniques and site selection. Careful evaluation over time has revealed a signature flavor profile as well. Complex aromas and flavors of cherry, red berry, spice, earth and cola appear time and again in Carneros Pinot Noir. To this day the appellation remains one of California’s standard bearers for the variety.
