Simi Landslide Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 Front Label
Simi Landslide Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 5% Malbec, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Tannat.

Deep, dark and nearly opaque with a ruby edge, the 2007 Landslide offers up evocative aromas of chocolate laced with cinnamon, blackberry, plum, black cherry and exotic wood spice. On the palate, a velvety entry is followed by concentrated black cherry and red plum fruit accented with toffee. It finishes with a hint of roasted coffee. Supple tannins add depth and length.

This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs beautifully with filet mignon with Cabernet mushroom sauce or pan-roasted chicken with Swiss chard, pancetta and onions in creamy polenta.

This is a good, full-bodied, dry Cabernet that delivers with plenty of varietal personality. Shows very ripe, concentrated blackberry, cherry and currant flavors, with plenty of sweet oak, and is tannic enough to develop over the next 4–6 years. Easy to find, with 12,000 cases produced.

While Sonoma County is acclaimed—and rightfully so—for its Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, and Zinfandels, it also produces exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Of the region’s 18 American Viticultural Areas, only a handful produce top-notch Cabernet Sauvignon. These appellations include Alexander Valley, Knights Valley, Sonoma Valley and Dry Creek Valley. Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignons made in these appellations can offer a complex array of aromas and flavors. Fruit notes such as blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis, black cherry and raspberry often are accompanied by hints of graphite, dusty earth, cigar box, toast and vanilla. The varietal has a rich history in Sonoma, and some of these Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet-based blends rival the best from Napa Valley.
