Signorello Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

Signorello Estate Cabernet Sauvignon can be called Padrone’s favorite son. It inherited Padrone's intense varietal aromas and concentrated flavor. Yet, because the grapes are sourced from several of the younger less rocky parcels with a variety of exposures, clones and soil types, it enjoys a softer tannin structure. Aged in approximately 64% new French oak barrels, this wine is known for round, full flavors that are intended to be enjoyed over the next 20 years.

Blend: 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot,4% Cabnernet Franc

Signorello makes ripe, sumptuous wines, starting with this estate Cabernet sourced from younger vines and aged in 85% new French oak. Perfumes of cherry and cassis emerge from the glass and flow onto the rich palate. These evolve and adapt into bright black fruit flavours that are heavily concentrated and give it a generous finish.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc aged 21 months in 85% new French oak and bottled unfiltered) is just beginning to close down like some of the 2013s. Dense ruby/purple, notes of blueberry, crème de cassis, a touch of camphor and vanilla, the wine is structured, full-bodied, deep and meant for long aging. Forget this for 3-4 years and drink it over the following 25-30 years. Rating: 92+

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
