Winemaker Notes

Dark red-black in color with intense aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and currants interwoven with burnt toast and tar. Additional layers on the nose of rich spice with added hints of vanilla and maple. There are background notes of pencil lead as well. On the palate flavors of sweet ripe raspberries come through and the wine has smooth tannins and creamy weight with an impeccable balance and a long finish.

RP 89
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Sequoia Grove's 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon has gotten even better since I tasted it last year (when I rated it 87). Still young and well-balanced with outstanding potential, it will improve even more with 3-4 more years of bottle age. Tightly-knit with lots of tannin but also copious quantities of black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with notions of spice box, oak and earth, this elegant Cabernet should evolve for 15-20 years.
89+ points.

Sequoia Grove Vineyards, Napa Valley, California
2007 Cabernet Sauvignon
Sequoia Grove is located in the prime Rutherford District of the Napa Valley. Rutherford is renowned for producing some of America's finest quality Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The 24-acre estate is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Chardonnay vines. These choice vineyards yielded their first estate-bottled Chardonnay in 1980 and Cabernet Sauvignon in 1982. The Allen family's aim is to perserve the natural character and intensity of that extraordinary fruit from the vineyard. With choice grapes, expertise, and love of the craft, Sequoia Grove continues to live up to a notable reputation for premiere wine production.

The Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without thinking of the other. Although Cabernet has many important outposts throughout the wine world, nowhere else has it achieved such success (and, at the highest end, commanded such lofty prices) than in Napa. Here, it is responsible for bold, opulent, and dark-fruited wines with grippy tannins and a healthy dose of alcohol. The best examples can age for decades. Each of Napa’s smaller sub-AVAs imparts a different character to Cabernet, such as Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
