Winemaker Notes
Sauvignon blanc has a long history in Baden. First mentioned in 1871 and has recently made a resurgence. The granite soil combined with the cool breeze from the Black Forest imparts flavours of exotic fruit into the wine. One doesn't meet a German Sauvignon Blanc on every corner and certainly not this extremely fragrant guy. In the nose, it shows the aromas of passion fruit and gooseberries. In the mouth, it unfolds a rich structure with a refreshing acidity, through which it wonderfully supports its fruit. And that it will not remain with a fleeting acquaintance is evident while he reverberates long and intensely.
Capable of a vast array of styles, Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing variety that equally reflects both terroir and varietal character. Though it can vary depending on where it is grown, a couple of commonalities always exist—namely, zesty acidity and intense aromatics. This variety is of French provenance. Somm Secret—Along with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc is a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. That green bell pepper aroma that all three varieties share is no coincidence—it comes from a high concentration of pyrazines (herbaceous aromatic compounds) inherent to each member of the family.
