James Suckling
What a haunting nose of smoke and wild herbs this breathtaking dry Nahe riesling has. Terrific underplayed power and fantastic focus on the super-sleek, concentrated, medium-bodied palate. Incredibly cool and precise in the super-long and super-stony finish, which has a compelling saltiness. From an extremely steep site with volcanic porphyry soil.

Vinous
The 2023 Riesling Bockenauer Stromberg Grosses Gewächs is from porphyry with some vines between 80 and 100 years of age. Chervil, lemon blossom and pale lemon zest come together on the fragrant nose. Equal fragrance defines the palate in its litheness, directness and absolute finesse. Gorgeous understatement allows us to see the naked purity of this stony wine. Beautiful, taut and crystalline, this is exquisitely and deliciously hair-raising. (Bone-dry) Barrel Sample: 96-98
Riesling possesses a remarkable ability to reflect the character of wherever it is grown while still maintaining its identity. A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. Somm Secret—Given how difficult it is to discern the level of sweetness in a Riesling from the label, here are some clues to find the dry ones. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.
