Winemaker Notes

This wine is produced from very carefully selected grapes in our oldest vineyards where the grapes are thinned out to reduce the production to 8-9 tons per hectare. Harvested in small crates, the soft pressing and the temperature controls during fermentation mean that the grapes are cared for in the old traditional way. Lively and vibrant in color with a high alcoholic content, it has strength and character. It has a light and inviting fragrance with a harmoniously balanced taste which is both full-flavored and sweetly aromatic. It's a wine in evolution.

This attractive wine opens with Verdicchio’s typical aromas of Spanish broom and stone fruit, as well as a whiff of flint. The palate offers creamy ripe peach, citrus and pineapple flavors, along with hints of salinity and minerality that are brightened by fresh acidity.

Smoky, with a base note of toasted hazelnut, this medium-bodied white layers sleek acidity with baked peach, lemon meringue pie and fleur de sel details. Drink now through 2020.

One of central Italy’s classic white grapes, Verdicchio thrives in two distinct zones of the Marche. The best vineyards of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi adorn hillsides a mere 20 miles from the Adriatic Sea. The vineyards of the smaller, more inland Verdicchio di Matelica, are at higher elevation. Somm Secret—Recent genetic discoveries have proven that the Verdicchio grape is identical to Trebbiano di Soave, Trebbiano di Lugana and Trebbiano Veltenesi.

Stretching along Italy’s eastern coast with neighbors, Umbria to its west and Abruzzo to its south, Marche is a region with a varying climate from north to south. Its coastal plains roll into hills that become the Apennine Mountains, which run the length of the country. The Marche's best red wines come from the grapes, Montepulciano and Sangiovese; the local Verdicchio makes refreshing, crisp and light whites.
