Winemaker Notes

Deep, intense ruby red. Well-developed bouquet with a rich combination of blackcurrant and the floral nuances with delicate undertones of graphite, tar, chocolate and vanilla. Elegant and well structured, this wine has an excellent balance and wonderful persistence.

Delicious with wild game and fowl, ripe cheeses, and spicy red meats.

A stacked nose includes aromas of tomato, herbs, cocoa, molasses and berry fruits. The saturated palate announces that this is a big one, while spicy flavors of plum and berry fruits are slightly herbal on a finish with excellent feel and flow. Drink this blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère through 2021.

A delicious red with berry, currant and chocolate character. Medium body, lovely tannins and a juicy finish. A blend of cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon and carmenere. Why wait?

The harmonious 2013 Triple C had much better integrated oak than the 2011 I tasted last time. From Maipo, it is a Bordeaux blend of 65% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Carménère, which now seems to be constant across vintages. It has a classical nose mixing black and red fruit with spices and an herbal touch. The palate is medium-bodied and revealed fine tannins, good balance and good freshness.

One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.

The Maipo Valley is Chile’s most famous wine region. Set in the country’s Central Valley, it is warm and quite dry, often necessitating the use of irrigation. Alluvial soils predominate but are supplemented with loam and clay.

The climate in Maipo is best-suited for ripe, full-bodied reds like Cabernet Sauvignon (the region’s most widely planted grape), Merlot, Syrah and Carmenère, a Bordeaux variety that has found a successful home in Chile.

White wines are also produced with great prosperity, especially near the cooler coast, include Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
