Year 2011 produced a well balanced Percarlo of excellent concentration and freshness with nicely intermingled alcoholic features, well suited for ageing. A high level vintage not inferior to 2010, in spite of markedly different features. Due to the very high temperatures experienced during months of August and September, at harvest time we had to carry out a careful berry by berry selection, discarding all grapes found damaged by overexposure to sun-light; production, as a consequence, suffered a 25% ca reduction.

The stunning 2011 Percarlo (Sangiovese) has been in bottle for one and a half years. Some 30% of the fruit this year was discarded because summer heat burned many of the berries. Great work was done at the sorting table to make sure that only the best berries were selected for this wine. That hard work has paid off because this is a profound expression of Sangiovese with sweet and soft contours of cherry and blackberry. The wine shows enormous complexity of character and a perfect sense of balance between its masculine and feminine side. It needs another five years of cellar aging.

This is squarely Tuscan, with balsamic notes of wild rosemary, thyme and autumn woods melding nicely with the macerated cherry and leather flavors. The tannins are present, yet overall this is harmonious and beginning to hit a sweet spot. Still needs a few years to fully integrate.—Non-blind Percarlo vertical (August 2018). From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
