Winemaker Notes
The Pinot Noir Kaiserstuhl comes from our best loess soil parcels in Oberrotweil, planted with old vines. It is a fruity, light every-day Pinot Noir with an intense color and high, but soft tannins.

A bit darker and juicier than most, this Pinot Noir brings rich, dark fruit to the forefront—think black cherries and plum, with a touch of spice. There's good tension between the fruit and acidity, with a slight grip that adds structure and keeps the wine grounded. It's a balanced, compelling Pinot with depth and a long, satisfying finish. A solid choice for those who like their Pinot with a bit more weight and presence.
Thin-skinned, finicky and temperamental, Pinot Noir is also one of the most rewarding grapes to grow and remains a labor of love for some of the greatest vignerons in Burgundy. Fairly adaptable but highly reflective of the environment in which it is grown, Pinot Noir prefers a cool climate and requires low yields to achieve high quality. Outside of France, outstanding examples come from in Oregon, California and throughout specific locations in wine-producing world. Somm Secret—André Tchelistcheff, California’s most influential post-Prohibition winemaker decidedly stayed away from the grape, claiming “God made Cabernet. The Devil made Pinot Noir.”
