Winemaker Notes

Domaine Roger Sabon is a well known producer of Chateauneuf du Pape. In 1995 a domain in Lirac, Chapelle de Maillac, was acquired and from here is produced a red Lirac. The wine is made from 40-50-years-old vines, 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Cinsault. It goes through quite a long maceration period of 20-25 days and is aged in barriques or demi-muids for some months.

A larger region between Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Tavel, Lirac red wines resemble some of the best Cotes du Rhone Villages wines, while it’s rosés are akin to those of Tavel. The region’s quality whites, based on Bourboulenc, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, are round and fruit-driven.
