Dominated by 80% Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller percentages of the other Bordeaux red grapes, this wine speaks of heritage and prestige. Broad, silky, and powerful, the graceful liquid is enhanced by dark chocolate, white pepper, black plum, vio lets, and sweet earth.

The base 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is certainly impressive, and since there are roughly 90,000 cases, it’s an incredible achievement. Classic darker currants, tobacco leaf, truffly earth, and spicy oak all define the bouquet, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with ripe tannins, terrific balance, and outstanding length. Based off 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec, buy a case and enjoy bottles over the coming 10-15 years. Best after 2022.

Lovely cabernet notes of bell pepper, blackcurrants, blackberry leaves and cassis, together with some cocoa powder. I like the freshness. Medium body and creamy, powdery tannins. Juicy and extremely drinkable. 80% cabernet sauvignon, the rest merlot, cabernet franc, petit verdot and some malbec. Drink from 2023.

A solid, forthright Cabernet, with cedar and warm stone notes framing the core of gently steeped black currant and blackberry fruit. Savory and loam accents flash through the finish.

COMMENTARY: The 2019 Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is generous and stylish with a pleasing finish on the palate. TASTING NOTES: This wine exhibits aromas and flavors of ripe berries and an accent of oak. Enjoy it with grilled lamb chops. (Tasted: December 9, 2021, San Francisco, CA)

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
