Winemaker Notes

In the glass the wine shines with vibrant ruby and purple hues, it appears electric and vibrant. Loads of boysenberry, blueberry, red cherry, and wild raspberry springing from the glass well before it gets to your nose. Crushed purple flowers, dark chocolate, mint, and dusty earth compliment the ripe and slightly confected fruit profile. There is a flashy oak component represented by toast, caramel, and cinnamon that offers the perfect complement to the lush fruit style on the nose. The Misbehaved is always a fruit forward wine, but the 2019 shows more restraint than the previous vintages – in a good way. There is a nice balance of compact, yet powerful fruit with secondary flavors of flowers and dust and a freshness of bright

acidity on the finish. The 2019 Misbehaved offers plenty of texture, depth, and length, in sophisticated and thought provoking way. For those who enjoy a darker Pinot Noir style with concentration and silky texture, this is a perfect wine.

Internationally recognized for gorgeous, pure fruit combined with great elegance, California Pinot noir thrives among the state’s cooler, coastal zones. Characterized by eclectic flavors and aromas of strawberry, black cherry, plum and potpourri with notes of forest floor, mushroom or black tea, the best California Pinot noir boast a supple texture and good acidity, giving them the ability to improve with age.

Credited with the beginning of Pinot noir’s glory in California, two growers, Joe Rochioli and Joseph Swan in the late 1960s independently planted Pinot noir vineyards in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. Today Sonoma County remains the leading producer of Pinot noir in the state, and Pinot noir is the leading red grape in the county, achieving its highest potential, in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast.

Other coastal appellations where Pinot noir flourishes include Carneros, Anderson Valley and most of the Central Coast.
