Relic Wine Cellars La Place Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 Front Label
Relic Wine Cellars La Place Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

A wine with huge personality - aromas of blueberry, blackberry pie, darkest chocolate, creme de violet and exotic spice. The palate is extremely fluid with a lush texture and everything in its place, letting the flavors of dark fruit, cocoa, vanilla, minerals and asian spice explode on the sweet, sultry finish.

Coming from the La Place Vineyard and brought up all in new French oak, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon La Place knocks it out of the park with its purity, elegance, and intensity. Giving up a big, beautiful bouquet of crème de cassis, sandalwood, tobacco leaf, and spring flowers, it has a Château Margaux-like elegance, full-bodied richness, and silky tannins. It’s an incredible wine, and even at this price, is a terrific value in Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

One-hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 100% new French oak for 22 months, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon La Place Vineyard is deep garnet-purple colored with wonderfully expressive black berries, cassis and black cherries notes with touches of menthol, cedar chest, dried Mediterranean herbs and violets with a waft of pencil lead. Full, rich, concentrated and with fantastic vibrancy, it has a firm frame of grainy tannins and loads of herbal sparks, finishing long and perfumed.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
