Red Mare Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Front Bottle Shot Red Mare Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

In keeping with the signature Red Mare Wines style, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with intense aromas of ripe red cherries, sappy notes of fresh bay and marjoram layered with rich warm cedar. The vintage story unfolds with the darker presence of black licorice, mocha and cocoa lifted by creamy vanilla and baking spices. The nose is rounded out with white tobacco and the slightly powdery, dusty notes of wet cement and dried loam. Ripe fruit flavors are actively carried through the palate with a core of freshness finishing with the firm, rich and ripe tannins that characterize 2013 and a lovely savory tactile persistence

Professional Ratings

  • 92
Interesting aromas of tar, asphalt and blackberries follow through to a medium body, soft and velvety tannins and a dry and fresh finish.
  • 90
Designed to present a measure of austerity and refinement, with a trim entry, lively acidity and vibrant notes of red and dark berry, underbrush and herb. Ends with detailed, fine-grained tannins that keep the flavors on track. Best from 2018 through 2028.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
