Winemaker Notes

Generations Cabernet Sauvignon is a striking dark ruby color in the glass and opens with intriguing aromas of blackberry and mocha that are interlaced with coffee and mineral notes. This is a classically dry wine that displays flavors of blackberry and both red and black currants that are enhanced by a touch of black cherry, ripe tannins and a long, lingering finish.

Wow. This is very powerful and rich with loads of fruit. Fruit-forward and intense, but there is tannin backbone and length. Drink now.

The outstanding 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Generations is a cross-AVA blend from St. Helena, Oakville and East Napa. There are 2,300+ cases of this blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. Aged 18 months in 60% new French oak, it reveals a dense purple color as well as lots of licorice, blackcurrant, tobacco leaf and crème de cassis characteristics. Opulent, full-bodied, fleshy and succulent, it should drink well for 10-15 years.

A blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot, this wine speaks to power, offering juicy, velvety texture around brawny components of leather, coffee and black plum. Concentrated and intense, it needs time to open in the glass before pairing with thick cuts of meat.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
