Winemaker Notes

In 2019, the clone selection included clone 1 (64%) which dominates the nose with Lychee nut, gooseberry, and honeydew. The Musqué selection (36%) is more ethereal with more classic notes of lemongrass and grapefruit. Fermented separately and blended at bottling, the duo is delicious, compelling and dynamic. The combination of new oak, neutral oak and stainless create additional layers of texture, fullness, and intrigue on the palate, framing the naturally occurring minerality while also providing whispers of flint and spice on the nose. Ram's Gate Winery are thrilled with the results and as delicious as it is today, can’t wait what bottle age will do to both the bottle bouquet and mouthfeel.

Aromas of fresh pear, lemon curd and flint. Some toasted hazelnut, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with bright acidity. Refreshing.

The 2019 Sauvignon Blanc Estate Vineyard reminds me of a top Graves Blanc with its lemon curd, nectarine, and salty mineral aromas and flavors. This is a juicy, medium-bodied, elegant Sauvignon Blanc with loads to love.

Capable of a vast array of styles, Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing variety that equally reflects both terroir and varietal character. Though it can vary depending on where it is grown, a couple of commonalities always exist—namely, zesty acidity and intense aromatics. This variety is of French provenance. Somm Secret—Along with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc is a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. That green bell pepper aroma that all three varieties share is no coincidence—it comes from a high concentration of pyrazines (herbaceous aromatic compounds) inherent to each member of the family.

California

Known for elegant wines that combine power and finesse, Carneros is set in the rolling hills that straddle the southernmost parts of both Sonoma and Napa counties. The cooling winds from the abutting San Pablo Bay, combined with lots of midday California sunshine, create an ideal environment for producing wines with a perfect balance of crisp acidity and well-ripened fruit.

This cooler pocket of California lends itself to growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. Carneros is an important source of sparkling wines made in the style of Champagne as well.
