Winemaker Notes
The 2018 offering from Teucer Vineyard presents a richly fruited and charismatic model of volcanic Coombsville terroir. The nose delivers the site’s signature black fruit aromas with notes of freshly turned earth, but the palate surges into a dense core of juicy blue, purple and black fruits with wonderful sucrosity. Gentle notes of sumac and volcanic minerality balance the berries with natural acidity, and powerful, polished tannins guide the lingering finish of crushed blackberries, plum and warm wood spice.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Teucer Vineyard charges out of the gate with bold scents of crème de cassis, Black Forest cake and stewed plums plus suggestions of spice box, Chinese five spice and mocha plus a touch of dried Provence herbs. The palate is rich, full-bodied and impactful, featuring loads of exotic spice and preserves black fruit layers and great tension, finishing long with a peppery kick.

A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.
Situated in the southeastern corner of Napa Valley in the Vaca range, the vineyards of the Coombsville AVA enjoy a long growing season mitigated by cool, San Pablo Bay fog.
