Winemaker Notes
The primal, volcanic character of the 2017 Teucer Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon stems from its origins on the ashy hillsides of the Coombsville caldera. The densely aromatic nose offers pitch black fruit with dark, rocky undertones. The palate opens into wonderfully juicy blackcurrant and savory plum, with gentle licorice and earth notes beneath. Soft tannins support the brooding black aromatics with grace, polish and finesse.

Pronounced aromas of blackberry, green capsicum, tomato leaf and pine. Fresh herbs, too. Vanilla and chocolate shine through on the palate. It’s full-bodied with firm, integrated tannins. Smooth and succulent. Concentrated, yet agile.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Teucer Vineyard slowly unfurls to reveal notes of cedar chest, blackcurrant cordial, prunes and spice cake with touches of tilled soil, tobacco leaf and wild sage. The taut, full bodied palate has firm, chewy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing with an herbal lift.

Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.
Situated in the southeastern corner of Napa Valley in the Vaca range, the vineyards of the Coombsville AVA enjoy a long growing season mitigated by cool, San Pablo Bay fog.
