Winemaker Notes

The benchmark for Willamette Valley Pinot and a snapshot of the vintage as interpreted by Ponzi. This wine is defined by compelling and intriguing aromas of black cherry, dark chocolate, spiced rhubarb, cigar box; a structured palate with a sweet middle of spiced cherries, black pepper, graphite and cranberry; and long and elegant ripe red fruit on the finish.

The first vintage for this re-branded, mid-level Ponzi Pinot is a doozy. Lovely aromatics offer a plush potpourri of plum, blueberry and cherry fruit, along with hints of curry, chocolate and hickory chips. Flavors are nicely entwined, round and full bodied, with a streak of root beer. This is ready to enjoy now and over the next couple of years.

Fresh and vital, focusing the black cherry, lime and spice flavors into a spotlight that glows through the generous, expressive finish. Drink now through 2021.

Lovely aromas of dark fruits, flowers and hints of rosemary. Medium body, light tannins and a fruity and fresh finish. Delicate wine.

This savory rosé of pinot noir has a bright strawberry accent adorned by the scent of dried pine boughs. The flavors are generous and pleasant, with a brisk, mild amaro bitterness. Pour with a salmon roll.

Home of some of the planet’s most amazingly elegant and expressive Pinot noir, the Willamette Valley is a pastoral, mixed landscape of green, bucolic rolling hills, dramatic forestlands and small, independent, friendly wine growers. As a leader in environmental stewardship, the valley has some of the nation’s most protective land use policies, with two-thirds of its vineyards farmed sustainably and over half, organically. While the valley claims a cool, continental climate, and is heavily influenced by the cold, moist winds of the Pacific Ocean, its warm and dry summers allow for the steady, even ripening of Pinot noir.

The potential of Willamette Valley Pinot noir continues to attract the investment of serious growers and winemakers both locally and from abroad, as naturally the finished wines bring accolades from professionals and enthusiasts. With a range of styles from delicate dried cherry, raspberry and hibiscus to stronger notes of truffle, mocha, plum and spice, a fine Willamette Valley Pinot noir is a perfect expression of both character and grace.
