Winemaker Notes

Nebuleuse Ardennaise 163 displays strong raspberry and plum notes on the nose as well as a hint of eucalyptus and black licorice with a touch of leather. The wine is mouth-filling but remains very juicy with a lingering smoky finish.

Ideal paired with tomato based dishes or white meat such as pork chops or marinated chicken breasts.

The 2021 Nebuleuse 163 is a classy "country wine." It is authentic and represents the Vin de France appellation well. This wine exhibits aromas and flavors of intense rustic, earthy notes, a suggestion of licorice, and fragrant blackberries. Pair this wine with a savory Beef Bourguignon. Full of ripe fruit, and robust, earthy goodness, Mourvèdre is actually of Spanish provenance, where it still goes by the name Monastrell or Mataro. It is better associated however, with the Red Blends of the Rhône, namely Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Mourvèdre shines on its own in Bandol and is popular both as a single varietal wine in blends in the New World regions of Australia, California and Washington. Somm Secret—While Mourvèdre has been in California for many years, it didn’t gain momentum until the 1980s when a group of California winemakers inspired by the wines of the Rhône Valley finally began to renew a focus on it.

A small category representing the wines that either fall outside of appellation lines or don’t subscribe to the law and traditions set forth by the French government within certain classified appellations, “Vin De France” is a catch-all that includes some of the most basic French wines as well as those of superior quality. The category includes large production, value-driven wines. It also includes some that were made with a great deal of creativity, diligence and talent by those who desire to make wine outside of governmental restrictions. These used to be called Vin de Table (table wine) but were renamed to compete with other European countries' wines of similar quality.
