The 2017 Alto Adige Lagrein Riserva Furggl is an inky dark and super concentrated red wine that might pair with pork stuffed with sweet prunes and spice. Those flavors comply perfectly with the aromas that rise from the bouquet of this inky dark red wine. The Riserva offers good freshness and mild tannins that are downplayed next to the super rich and succulent texture of the grape. This hot vintage delivers extra intensity and fiber. Rating: 90+

The expressive character of the wines is formed in the vineyard. Intensive nurturing of the grapevines as well as the careful selection are the essential prerequisites for the authentic wines. The fascinating interplay between tradition and innovation, man and the surroundings, sense and sensuality finds expression in the passion and sensitivity with which Peter Zemmer brings his wines to life.
Incredibly concentrated and uncommonly sturdy in character, Lagrein has roots in the Alto Adige area and has recently experienced a great renaissance in popularity. While the climate is cool there, the sun is intense on the region’s steep slopes. Warm hillsides near the bustling city of Bolzano create the perfect environment for the production of intense reds from Lagrein. Somm Secret— Lagrein Kretzer (German) or Rosato (Italian) is the spicy rosé version, which is delicious with smoked fish and white meat.
