Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

Providing a lovely contrast to the more powerfully structured Bin 707, Bin 407 is a restrained and elegant cabernet sauvignon style with clear, varietal black-currant/cassis aromas, fine-grained firm tannins and underlying cedar and savory oak.

Aged in 50% new oak of which 30% is French, the very deep purple-black colored 2011 Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon presents pure, pronounced cassis aromas wed to underlying Mediterranean herb, cedar, pencil lead and menthol notes. Medium-bodied and taut in the mouth, with just enough expressive fruit to meet the firm, grainy tannins and lively acid, it finishes with good length. 2,715 bottles were made. Drink it 2014 to 2021+.

Finely focused, with juicy currant fruit at the core, accented by hints of red pepper and sweet spices. A blanket of fine tannins settles over the well-modulated finish. Best from 2015 through 2020.
