Winemaker Notes

This flagship wine is the genesis of what most great undertakings are – passion, and commitment to excellence. A single-vineyard estate wine is made by Nils Venge and Tom Rinaldi, who have somehow managed to capture quiet elegance and powerful fruit at the same time. Red-fruit driven, it's round and rich, with moderate tannin and cassis, clove and black pepper highlights. This wine is aged about 20 months in 75 percent new French oak, with further aging in the bottle before release.

The deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Pellet Vineyard has quite a complex nose of baked berries, cassis and black cherry preserves with spice box, potpourri and lifted char. Full, rich and concentrated in the soft and plush mouth, it's a little low on acid but still very impressive, finishing long.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Pellet Vineyard, like the Henry’s Reserve, is a step up over the more mid-weight, elegant 2014. Offering up terrific notes of blackberries, blueberries, toasted spices, violets, and graphite, it stays tight and focused on the palate, with good acidity and ample tannin. It’s not quite as broad and expansive as the Henry’s Reserve, but offers a classic, high-quality style that’s going to benefit from 2-4 years of cellaring and shine for a decade or more. Rating: 92+

Dense with polished tannins and lots of blueberry and dark chocolate character. Full body, tight and rich yet a tension and freshness at the end.

Pellet Estate, California

Pellet Estate is a rare, authentically grown, and classically made wine. The Estate is a spectacular vineyard site in the small town of St. Helena, with a rich history dating back to 1859. Henry Pellet, one of the founding pioneers of Napa Valley winemaking, first planted this site with a vision of producing wines that would be among the best in the world. In 2005, owner Greg Krill and his wife Robin purchased 5 acres of this original historic property to found Pellet Estate . His first order of business was to pull out the existing vineyard and replant according modern practices of trellising, row orientation and vineyard management techniques. They then assembled a dream team to perfect every aspect including winemaker Tom Rinaldi, an icon in Napa Valley who was the founding winemaker for Duckhorn, Provenance & Hewitt to name a few.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
