Winemaker Notes

Pellet Estate Henry's Reserve is unique every year. The winery lets each season, each barrel, each varietal guide us in crafting this rare blend. It’s the standout barrels and varietals that rise above all expectations each year, from which they select pay close attention to, when blending the reserve program, only yielding about a single barrel or two. This is Henry’s Reserve – the constant pursuit of the most authentic expression, each year, from what fruit this historic vineyard provides. It never will be, nor is meant to be, the same.

Blend: 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the 2018 Red Blend Henry's Reserve offers a spicy, complex style with plenty of plum and jammy blackberry fruits as well as cedary herb and flowery incense notes. It's medium to full-bodied, nicely textured and balanced.

Notes of dark fruit, herbs and wood. A savory, balanced, medium-to full-bodied red. Firm tannins bring structure and the elegant finale has length. Lightly austere now. Drink or hold.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the 2018 Henry's Reserve Pellet Vineyard features enough cedar, herbal and menthol notes to give the bright cherry fruit a slightly medicinal tinge. It's medium to full-bodied, tart and tight, with a silky finish that reprises the opening cedar notes.Rating:91+

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
