Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

On the nose, this aromatic wine displays inviting layers of black raspberry and blackberry pie, along with notes of cinnamon stick, vanilla bean and a touch of brown sugar. The lush fruit character continues on the palate where rich currant and cherry flavors are supported by bright acidity and velvety tannins that draw the wine to a silky, berry and spice finish.

Blend: 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 16% Zinfandel, 11% Petit Verdot

One of the winery's best efforts to date, the 2015 Paraduxx Proprietary Red—a fine blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with some Merlot, Zinfandel, and Petit Verdot—shows up on the palate with an excellent synergy tart berries, red currants, and savory oak. Pair this wine with a thick juicy slice of prime rib. (Tasted: December 22, 2017, San Francisco, CA)

Red plums, red cherries, herbs and Chinese spices. Medium-bodied with some nicely firm tannins and fresh acidity to carry things through to the fruity finish. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, zinfandel and petit verdot.

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
