Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

Beautiful aromas of blackberry and black currant fruit. Cocoa powder and espresso, floral notes of violets & wild cherry blossoms! Rich, plush mouthfeel with a fabulous velvety texture! Layers of crushed red cherries & sweet blackberry fruit. Hints of dark chocolate & spice cake. Full-bodied with excellent structure and acidity. Bold, long finish, with hints of espresso and dark chocolate.

Pair this wine alongside bone-in ribeye, grilled veal chops, and New York strip steak.

A blend of 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Red Blend Right Bank Reserve comes sashaying out of the glass with the most gorgeous perfume of potpourri, Black Forest cake, forest floor, Ceylon tea and eucalyptus with a core of kirsch, plum preserves and spice cake plus a waft of unsmoked cigars. Medium to full-bodied, vibrantly perfumed and possessing a wonderfully plush texture, it has bags of poise and purity coming through on the finish.

Based on 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2016 Right Bank Proprietary Red Reserve sports a deep purple/ruby hue as well as a complex bouquet of blueberries, ripe cherries, spring flowers, incense, and violets. Beautifully layered, polished, and silky on the palate, with good freshness and purity, it's another seriously good wine from this estate.

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
