Dark, scorched earth, licorice, smoke and menthol flavors that give the wine much of its brooding, muscular, virile personality. In the Starda region, we grow the alter ego of our Barbaresco. Less warmer spot and younger vines give birth to much delicate and approachable wines. A Nebbiolo that sweeten the wait and anticipate the style of the Barbaresco.

A rich style, with a dense structure that needs air to reveal the cherry, berry, tobacco, mineral and earth flavors. Shows excellent balance, ending with a long aftertaste. Decant or age a few years. Best from 2019 through 2024.

Beyond these two, a surprising number of red varieties call Piedmont their home. Worth a try include Dolcetto for its bold concentration and aromas of spice cake. Other grapes to investigate include Freisa, Croatina, Brachetto, Grignolino and Pelaverga.
